You haven't seen a human pyramid until you've seen one on water skis--and in Janesville, you can see that and more aquatic acrobatics every week on the Rock River, home of the Rock Aqua Jays waterskiing troupe. As you recline on the grassy riverbank to watch the show, pop open a Gray's root beer, made locally by the Gray family for more than 150 years.

Most of the houses near the river are older; a mid-sized two-bedroom, two-bath home with river frontage starts at about $180,000. GM, the city's largest employer, offers factory tours, as does the Wisconsin Wagon Company and the Gray brewery.
